What temperature is better for growing winter rye?
Broad Question
Specific Question
What temperature is best for growing winter rye?
Hypothesis
A more mild temperature will have the best height because if it's too hot, the plant will die and if it's too cold, the plant will freeze.

Variables
Independent Variable: Temperature (Celsius)
Dependent Variable: Height (cm.)
Variables That Need To Be Controlled: Temperature
Vocabulary List That Needs Explanation
General Plan
I'm going to plant 3 winter rye plants in three different locations with different temperatures to see which plant grows the tallest. I'm going to keep one in my kitchen, basement, and garage.
Potential Problems And Solutions
My guinea pig/cat/dogs might eat the plants but that's unlikely. I will put the plants on higher surfaces to prevent that from occurring.
Detailed Procedure
1. I'm going to plant them in red cups with the same type of soil. I'm going to water in them once every 2 days. They will be planted in my basement, garage, and kitchen. The temperatures will stay at 15 degrees Celsius, 10 degrees Celsius, and 21 degrees Celsius.
2. When they start to grow, I'm going to check which plant grows the most in each room.
3. After 7 days, I'm going to record which plant grew to be the tallest.

Results
The plant I grew in the warmest temperature (21 degrees Celsius) grew the tallest, it grew to be 17.1 centimeters. The plant in the second warmest temperature (15 degrees Celsius) grew to be 14.4 centimeters. The plant in the coldest temperature (10 degrees Celsius) didn't grow at all.
Conclusion
Winter rye grows best in warm temperatures.
Discussion
Trends I saw in the data were the tallest plant I planted in my kitchen, grew to be 2.7 centimeters more than the plant I planted in and the plant in the coldest temperature didn't grow at all. The relationship between the two variables is very strong because the plant grew faster in the warmer temperature. I was able to answer the experiment question. My experiment didn't have any problems nor did my data contain any known errors. How this experiment can be improved is I could've used a wider variety of temperatures.
Benefit to Community and/or Science
How this can benefit the community is farmers grow winter rye to feed their livestock because it's really good for the meat in cows and for horses it's full of vitamins that are really good for them.
Background Research
It's not very good as lawn grass but very good for livestock.
